An Overview of Oversized Doors

Oversized doors are suitable for large buildings that have specific spacial requirements. They can also be configured to meet a range of needs. Let’s take a look at the options.

Doors are a standard component of every building. However, some spaces present specific spacial requirement that require special purpose oversized doors.

As you might have guessed, oversized doors are simply those that are larger than a regular door set (in accordance with Australian standards). These can be configured in a range of ways to suit the special needs of any space. Let’s take a look at the options available.

Oversized Door Configurements

Oversized solid core doors can be configured to suit the requirements of many commercial, industrial and public spaces:

• Sliding doors – Oversized sliding doors are quite common in large spaces where larger entry/exit points are needed to accommodate heavy foot traffic, but where the use of conventional side hung doors is impractical.

Hinged doors – Oversized hinged doors are perfect for use in large retail spaces. Our product has been designed and engineered specifically for heavy-duty use that also offers higher performance levels of security, longevity and sound attenuation.

Double action swinging doors – Oversized swinging double action doors are useful in spaces where corridors have heavy traffic flow in both directions. They perform like any other door, however, the key difference is that they swing 180-degrees to allow traffic to move quickly and easily back and forth through the doors.

Special Purpose Oversized Fire Doors

Acoustic doors can be configured to meet the needs of any safe, be it fire safety, security or sound attenuation.

Fire doors – Oversized fire doors consist of the door leaf, frame and associated hardware such as handles, locks, viewing panels and air grills. All of these elements will have been rigorously tested in accordance with the Building Code of Australia (i.e. AS1530.4) to achieve their fire rating. You can read more about this process here.

Acoustic doors – Some large spaces like auditoriums and theatres may require oversized acoustic doors to handle heavy traffic flow while adhering to sound attenuation requirements.

Ballistic doors – Ballistic doors are bullet and blast resistant doors, which may be required in financial institutions, industrial facilities, mining facilities and jails.

Radiation doors – Radiation shielding can be added to a variety of oversized doors during the design and manufacture stage to prevent unsafe radiation from penetrating the doors. these may be suitable for hospitals or industrial facilities.
